Monthly Land Ice TDP Report for March 2025

This report contains a summary of information on the Cryo-TEMPO (Baseline-D v001) Inland Waters TDP (thematic data products) for Mar 2025. For detailed information and statistics on all parameters, please use the product viewer.

Product Availability

This section shows the availability of Cryo-TEMPO Inland Waters products during Mar 2025.

As each orbit may be split in to several Cryo-TEMPO files, the number of files and orbits may be different.

Water Surface Height Statistics

The primary parameter measured for inland water is the surface height. This section shows an example of statistics of the number of valid wsh measurements based on the quality flag (wsh_quality_flag) for Mar 2025.

There are no quality measurements for SARin acquisition mode. Indeed, the quality flag is derived from waveform classification, which is not applied for SARin measurements. The % of measurements in each mode (LRM, SAR, SIN) is also shown.

Area %LRM %SAR %SIN %Good Quality %Bad Quality %Unknown Quality
Canadian Lakes NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN
USA Lakes NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN
Swedish Lakes NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN
Po Basin NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN

Example Maps of valid water surface height measurements and land water occurrence over all US Lakes and US Lake Okeechobee, and all Canadian Lakes and Canadian Lake Athabasca displayed below.

Water Surface Height Accuracy

The accuracy of CryoSat Cryo-TEMPO wsh measurements is calculated by comparison with external in situ data measurements. The statistics are provided for the period 2010-2020

Po basin: comparison against in-situ measurements (gauge stations) and ICESat data

Known Issues

TFMRA retracking is implemented for LRM and SAR acquisition modes, meaning that only MLE4 and OCOG retrackers are available for areas covered by SARin acquisition.

Data quality for products is indicated by the quality flag. This quality flag depends on the class of the backscattered waveforms, estimated by neural networks. However, this quality indicator, which is available for the LRM and SAR acquisition modes, is not available for the SARin acquisition mode.
