CPOM Sea Ice Portal - Service Status

Current operational status of near real-time (NRT) and non-time-critical (NTC) data products.

Service Update Messages
Date Status Message
Mar 2026 New CPOM sea ice portal service setup in progress. Due to a switch from use of NSIDC SSMI sea ice concentration to use of OSISAF sea ice concentration, current NTC processing is delayed by 1 month. This is expected to return to normal service in the next few days.
Antarctic NRT products and NTC timeseries products will come online in due course.
Current Status Overview
Arctic sea ice thickness is only calculated between October and May. During the summer melt season (June - September), the presence of surface melt ponds on the sea ice makes accurate surface discrimination difficult, and the status will inherently display as degraded (orange). Antarctic is generally colder and so thickness is measured year-round.

Status Definitions
  • Nominal Operations - Data is processing correctly and updates are occurring on schedule.
  • Degraded Service - We are experiencing processing delays or partial data availability. Systems are working to catch up.
  • Service Interrupted - The processing chain is currently stopped or unavailable. Engineering teams are investigating.
